Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhan Şengür, member of Eskişehir Technical University Faculty of Aviation and Space, talked about the ''Accessibility For Everyone'' project between Turkey and the European Union.
"The focus is not only disabled individuals", stated Ferhan Şengür. She pointed out that all kinds of people's movements can be limited at any time and this project, joint by the EU and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, leads people to reach accessibility. "The accessibility of Passenger Transport Services in Turkey is actually an effective aid project. The reason for the EU's realization of this project is that it is a sustainable, efficient, accessible transportation system. To achieve this, of course, they have funds, and support is being created for them. Most people with disabilities face major problems in their daily lives. Like private parking service, it's hard to get together with the community on a lot of issues until the transportation possibilities. In addition, they have very limited rights. Created to make the lives of disabled individuals accessible budget is an adequate budget. In this case, we will do our best to carry out the project."
"TURKEY HAS SUFFICIENT LEVEL STANDARDS WITH DISABILITIES"
The general concepts of accessibility for disabled people have reached EU standards in Turkey stating that Şengür, Turkey is not far behind in this regard. After the awareness projects made by educators, she pointed out that the society was conscious about this issue. Related to the issue about the aviation industry, Şengür said, "Aviation has grown to an international standard in terms of accessibility. However, some problems may occur in practice. The process is going on in the airlines, but the passenger doesn't know it. Sometimes there may be problems with this. Who will be responsible for where they can create problems? Usually, this kind of work is specialized. it's given to companies. There are discussions about this. There is also a cost for providing accessibility. Because when disabled passengers are notified, all operations can be carried out privately by taking them through the door. Special vehicles can be transported quickly. How to meet the passenger ticket, of course, how to be reflected in special money giving is out of the question. This is a right up to all passengers as much as the entire aviation system it must be funded."
“THE RESTRICTION OF INDEPENDENT ACTION SHOULD BE ELIMINATED"
In modern societies, if the individual is unable to act independently to participate in social life, then it is unthinkable that they can contribute fully to the society. Especially in order to move independently social, cultural, economic and political life is different from other people less participation is required. For these reasons, Ferhan Şengür underlines the need to be improved, disabled individuals, as much as possible with the community to integrate their ease of movement, especially by increasing the possibilities of public transport indicated that will be provided. "The aim of this project is to enable disabled and mobility ensuring that restricted individuals are aware of their rights and responsibilities, emergency situations uncertainty about what will happen to these passengers when they are experienced and aware of disabled individuals in universities you need to be taught on your behalf'', Şengür says.
